Born in Palma de Mallorca, José María Moreno undertook his initial studies in conducting in Spain, completing advanced studies at the Rimsky-Korsakov conservatory in St. Petersburg with maestro Mijail Kukushkin.

José María Moreno holds the title of Superior Professor of Orchestral Conducting (Conservatory of Valencia). He also holds titles of Singing Professor (Liceo Conservatory, Barcelona) and Professor of Theory, Piano, Harmony, Counterpoint and Composition (Conservatory of Balearic Islands). In addition he is licensed to practice Law from the Balearic Islands University. 

Under the guidance of Maestro Pedro Valencia, he is pioneer in introducing techniques Hun Yuan Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong applied to the art of conducting.

He is Musical Director of the Sinfónica de Quintana Roo (México), the Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquestra da Opera no Patrimonio (Portugal) and of the Festival MúsicaMallorca and, since 1999, Musical and Artistic Director of the Capella Mallorquina. 

He has conducted operas, zarzuelas, ballets and concerts in Spain, China, Canada, Russia, México, Colombia, Germany, Finland, France, Italy and Portugal.

It should be highlighted his performances in the Beijin Forbidden City Music Hall, in the Berliner Philarmonie, in the Helsinki Music Center or in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. José María Moreno has also had the honour of conducting in the presence of the Pope John Paul II in Rome and also before the King and Queen of Spain.

For several years he has been Professor of Improvisation, Conducting Technique, Choir and Musical Analysis at the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands.

Public and critics have highlighted the success of his leadership of the Teatre Principal of Palma de Mallorca, scheduling seasons of Opera, spanish Operetta, Ballet and Theatre as Artistic and Musical Director for the 2012-2015 seasons with titles such as Carmen, La Bohème, Trovatore, Turandot, Aida, Otello, Tosca, Eugene Onegin, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rigoletto, Die Zauberflöte, the Barberillo de Lavapies, Doña Francisquita,  Luisa Fernanda, Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, etc.  with an average annual of 250 representations. 

Recently he has conducted "La Traviata" in the Teatro Cervantes from Málaga, an Opera Gala in Lisboa, "Samsom et Dalila" in Pinhel and Coimbra (Portugal), Symphonic Concerts in Bogotá with the Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Opera Galas in the Riviera Maya, an Opera Gala of the Festival MúsicaMallorca in the Auditorium of Palma, a symphonic concert in the Auditorium of Málaga, "La Verbena de la Paloma" in the Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo, the opera "El Reloj de Lucerna" in the Teatre Principal of Palma, an Opera Gala in the Casa de Música in Porto, the Dvorak's "Stabat Mater" in Braga, etc.

Upcoming projects include concerts in Teatro Real to conduct the Sinfónica de Madrid in a concert with the tenor José Bros, to México with some symphonic concerts and opera galas with the Sinfónica de Quintana Roo,  to Mallorca to conduct and Opera and Zarzuela Gala, to the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga with a symphonic concert, to Oviedo to conduct an Opera Gala, etc.
