Biography

 

"Icelandic baritone Olafur Sigurdarson has appeared in opera houses throughout Europe, in Australia and Japan in roles such as Rigoletto, Falstaff, Simon Boccanegra, Iago, Scarpia, Flying Dutchman, Telramund and Alberich, to name but a few. 
He recently made his US debut in the title role of Falstaff at Opera Omaha followed immediately by Rigoletto at Minnesota Opera and then further performances in the title role of Falstaff at Opera Colorado.
He most recently returned to Finnish National Opera for performances in the title role of The Flying Dutchman, a role in which he was ecstatically reviewed in his debut in 2014 and for which he received the rarely bestowed honorary membership of the Richard Wagner Association in Saarland (RWV).
Olafur has been awarded both the Icelandic Music Awards and the Icelandic Theater Awards for his portrayal of Rigoletto and Scarpia. 
Future plans include the role of Wozzeck at Finnish National Opera and his debut at English National Opera as Verdi's Miller."
